A shipment-ready audit has a different pressure behind it. The question is no longer whether a team can make room for a useful conversation before launch; it is whether the system has earned its place in the release branch at all. That changes the audit window, the evidence we ask for, and the precision of the final recommendation. We still begin with the system’s stated purpose and the four probes, but every answer has to be legible to the people who will sign off on deployment.
The timeline tightens first. Instead of treating each probe as a workshop with an open-ended discussion, we establish a fixed evidence packet, identify the release-blocking cases, and test those cases before spending time on the easy wins. A scope decision that might be a follow-up item in a roadmap review can become a gate when the system is about to act on real people. The audit is not harsher for the sake of ceremony; it is more explicit about what must be true before the next irreversible step.
The readout changes with it. Short decision memos sit alongside the full evidence so engineering, governance, and the release owner can see the same finding at different speeds. A clear pass is useful, but so is a precise hold: which commitment is unresolved, which probe produced the evidence, and what would count as recovery. Shipment readiness is not the absence of difficult findings. It is the presence of a defensible answer to them.
